Sternö is a mountainous peninsula and is Karlshamn's main local recreation area with opportunities for swimming, recreational fishing, mushroom picking etc. East of the boat harbor is the historically interesting island Boön. Sweden's largest shipyard was once located here. On the island there is a hiking trail with information boards about cultural and historical attractions.
